Monthly Newsletter

FROM THE DIRECTOR’S OFFICE

Dear Preschool Families,

WOW,  I can’t believe this is the last newsletter of the year.  I look back at the first days of school how the children came into the office for health check unsure of what the day at preschool will be like.  Now with running feet and smiling faces they come in ready to start their day. I love the sharing of toys and stories each morning.  Those confessions of “I forgot to brush my teeth” with a wide innocent grin. Oh how each of them have grown.

We still have many important and fun events to look forward to before the last day of school in June.  Before we talk about those I have to thank everyone for making April so awesome.  We thank all the parents for helping us with Saturday workday, Earth Day planting, bringing cookies and treats to our Open House and so much more.

April had the PreK classes enjoying the Kids Space Adventure.  It was pretty awesome to see all the stars as we entered Fellowship Hall.  It was quite the learning adventure.

Open House was so well attended.  The Teachers did such a great job making their classrooms come alive with the children’s work.  We hope you enjoyed the evening.

Earth Day was another day that brought warmth to my heart.  As I enter the school grounds each morning with beautiful flowers everywhere it just makes me smile.  Thank you, Thank you, for all the plants donated and for all the parents that stayed to help the children with the planting project.  The children enjoyed the planting and it was wonderful to watch everyone working together.  Together we have made our small part of the planet a wonderful place to be.  Happy Earth Day!

Keep our Children Safe

Please note that the arrival/departure rules for parent and staff parking remain in effect all throughout the school year.  Only the Church and Preschool staff are to park in the “Staff Parking Lot” (behind the church). Preschool families will be given all the parking in front and around the main entrance of the church including Euclid Ave. and the public parking lot on First Ave.

We want to thank every single family for remembering to double check that the entry gate is latched each and every time you use it.  All families will need to remind themselves about keeping our little children safe by making sure the gate is latched. We thank you now on behalf of each little child who will benefit by your loving consideration.

Teacher Appreciation Week, May 6th through the 10th – No lunch bunch 5/8

Teacher Appreciation Week is a week set aside that gives everyone the opportunity to thank their Teacher for all their hard work, love and support.  I think we have an awesome staff and each and every one of them is a blessing to our school.   Please note there is no lunch bunch on Wednesday, May 8th so we can honor our teachers.  Thank you as always for your support.

Mom’s Day Tea Thursday, May 9th or Friday, May 10th at 10 o’clock (or 1 o’clock for the pm class)

You are invited to join your child for a special morning at Preschool.  Please note, your children come at their regular school time to get ready and Moms arrive a bit later.  We will be singing, creating an art project and enjoying each other’s company.  If mom can’t make it, please feel free to have Grandma, Aunt or friend (over 18) come instead.  We can’t wait to share this special time with you!   We appreciate Jamie Chang for sharing her musical talents with the children.  Thank you Jamie.

Kids Love Music

We are excited to have Karen Greeno return with her program of music and songs this year.  Karen will be here Wednesday and Thursday, May 29th and 30th.  Each classroom will have a special music/song time with Karen during the day.  At 11 o’clock all the children will come together in the Fellowship Hall for a sing-a long.  Families are invited to join us for the sing-along.

2013/14 Changes are coming!  Spread the word…

The Department of Social Services granted our wishes!  Beginning with the 2013/14 school year we have a few changes coming!

1.           Lunch Bunch will be offered Monday through Friday (instead of just through Thursday).

2.           Our starting age will be 2 years 6 months (instead of 2 years 9 months).

3.           An “Early Start” program will be offered from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Monday through Friday for $5.00 per morning.  Early Start is an extra hour of preschool activities and parents may bring a breakfast snack.

It can be added on a drop in basis.

Graduation

All Preschool families are invited to attend the graduation ceremonies on June 10th and 11th. The Graduation Ceremony is for all Preschoolers who will be leaving for Kindergarten in the fall.  The ceremonies will begin at 7:00 pm.  An Ice Cream Social will follow in the courtyard.  We request all graduates to report to their classrooms no later than 6:30 P.M. in their caps and gowns.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT ALL GRADUATING CHILDREN REPORT TO THEIR CLASSROOMS NO LATER THAN 6:30 P.M. ON GRADUATION EVENING.

THE M-W-F CLASSES WILL GRADUATE ON MONDAY, JUNE 10TH AND THE T-TH CLASSES (BOTH A.M. AND P.M.) WILL GRADUATE ON TUESDAY, JUNE 11TH. PLEASE HAVE ALL LIBRARY BOOKS RETURNED AND ANY PRESCHOOL RELATED FEES PAID IN FULL NO LATER THAN MAY 1ST

Because video cameras and flash photography are not allowed to be used during the ceremony in the sanctuary, the church has given us permission to have one videographer to record this very special event.  Unfortunately the videographer that we have used for many years has retired.  If anyone knows of a professional videographer please stop by the preschool office with information.  We hope you understand that having a professional videographer for our ceremony enables the children to fully participate in the graduation ceremony without the distraction of flashes and motion of those people trying to get that “perfect picture”.  Although no flash photography is permitted during the ceremony, families may photograph (without leaving their seats), their graduates during the recessional only.

Thank you for supporting our Tricycle Rodeo, Box Top & Campbell label, and ink cartridge drives throughout the year!!

I would not want to forget thanking Mrs. Suyi Chen for picking up the responsibilities as Resource Chairperson for our “Campbell’s Soup Label” AND “Box Tops for Education” drive!  Of course this project couldn’t exist without our supportive Preschool families who saved, saved, saved those soup and box top labels.  Thanks team!

Speaking of team work… The grand total of our 2012-2013 Tricycle Rodeo pledges turned in to date is $7,010.60.   The single fundraiser alone made it possible to purchase a bit more classroom equipment and add towards our Amazing Athletes Program.  Our gratitude goes out to all the wonderful families and friends who made this school year’s Tricycle Rodeo such a big success!

THANK YOU – THANK YOU – THANK YOU – THANK YOU – THANK YOU

As the Preschool year comes to a close, I would like to thank all of our wonderful families for sharing your precious children with us.  I hope you realize how much your generosity, new ideas and support mean to the Preschool Staff!  All those who donated party supplies, baked for special occasions, drove on field trips, referred new families to our program, worked in the classrooms, and simply did what was needed to bring this program together.  You have all been quite FABULOUS!

Summer School

It is time to sign up for summer school as spaces are filling up.  We have 6 great weeks planned for your child.  Remember you can choose to join us for all six weeks or whatever week fit with your family’s summer schedule.  Each weekly session is $60 and is paid at the time of registration.  Classes are held T/W/TH from 8:45 to 11:45.

Not only do we have the three year old /four year old summer program we have added a Kindergarten Readiness class for those children that are entering Kindergarten in the fall called  “Kindergarten Here We Come”!!  Themes for each week will coincide with the Preschool Summer Sessions posted in the office but the class will keep your child progressing over the summer.  This class will be limited to 12 children each week.

Don’t get left out!  Registration forms are available in the preschool Office

Memorial Day Weekend

The Preschool will be closed Monday May 27th.  We hope all of you have a relaxing, fun and safe holiday weekend.

Last Days of School

As my second school year as Director comes to a close I want to say Thank-you.  My heart is overwhelmed with all the kindness and support you have shown.  I loved our school previously as a Teacher and Assistant Director and continue to feel blessed by the Preschool families and staff.  Some days are busy and hectic but how can I not smile when I’m surrounded by all these blessings.  As a very special friend has said “my work is child’s play.”  Thank you for a great year.  For those that our leaving our Preschool Family this year we send you and your child off with our love and prayers.  Remember to stop by to visit us as you will always be a part of us.  To those of you that are returning, I look forward to many more happy and loving memories together.

Happiest Day wishes to all of our Preschool Mothers, Grandmothers and Great Grandmothers!

God is Good!
